WHO IS BARBARA HUBBARD?

Barbara Hubbard is an internationally known expert on positive options for society, an author and a deeply committed social activist. The daughter of the late toy manufacturer, Louis Marx, Barbara was singled out by the late thinker and inventor, Buckminster Fuller, as the "best informed human now alive on the subject of the future."

Born in 1929, Barbara has continually pursued ways for humans to improve our lives on this planet. She recalls a young girl asking Dwight Eisenhower, a close friend of her father's, about the meaning of the power of western civilization, the purpose of science and technology, and the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy. These discussions as well as others with many of the great people of our century have led Barbara to pursue a life-long career in positive social change. She graduated cum laude in political science from Bryn Mawr and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris.

In 1970 Barbara formed The Committee for the Future, which was the first citizens' group to identify and advocate positive long range options, and began a career as one of the most demand and inspirational speakers of our nation. Over the past 14 years she has addressed such diverse groups as Brookings Institute, the U.S. Naval Academy, various congressional committees, NASA, Johns Hopkins Medical School, dozens of major corporations, women's organization, and various educational institutions. Hubbard also hosted her own 13-week television series, "Potentials," featuring such leading innovators as Gene Roddenberry, Buckminster Fuller, Ray Bradbury, Norman Cousins, California Assemblyman John Vasconcellos, Marilyn Ferguson, and others.

Hubbard, 54, the mother of five grown children, has now mounted an unprecedented effort to become the first woman Vice President of the United States.
