I was employed by the Commissioner and Co Sup to teach a public school at $40. per month; The building is one that was repaired by the Bureau: and is now I think owned, by the M. E. Church

Now I am in the 13th District, and am employed by the Commissioners here at $49. per month. They bought the land and the Colored people put up the building It is designed for a public school for colored children. It is a regular preaching place for the ministers of the M. E. Church. I get along very nicely with my school and have no fears of anything except my pay, And Mr Walker tells me I need have no fears of that

I have seen him much since this sch. commenced, He told me then he could pay one a part of the $200, due from the 16th District, but I wished to have it all at once and so the matter stands; by this you see I have received nothing as yet

I am to see Mr Walker this week or next when I hope to have all my fears assuaged. I am sustained by good Loyal people the Commissioners and Mr Walker are all strong Union men. Then I have nine Union Families that feed me splendidly, But O! that Secesh spirit that predominates here, even members of the same church cannot agree. I have attended all churches since I have been here

Last Sabbath I went by the Baptist the first hymn the Minister read was "When I survey the wondrous Cross" &c. This is my favorite hymn, and I was delighted to sing it with them. I hear none other than our beautiful M. E. hymns sung here; Campbelites, Baptist, and Southern Methodist, all sing them.
My school will close the 2nd week in July I dont know what I will do for money to go home if I dont get my pay However I hope for the best What time will your teachers return north?
Yours Truly
Zernah Young
