I had the honor of received from your office through the kindness of Mr. Whittlesey, an answer to my enquiry if the Freedmans Bureau had a right to fund coloured children when there parents had abandoned them. The ones that were bound to me by Capt. Butler & passed upon by the officers there in N. Orleans. They were bound to me by solicitation of the Bureau. They were bound to me by the solicitation of the Bureau, when they were unable to care for themselves. [[strikethrough]] See [[/strikethrough]] Now they are becoming useful & praying me for the trouble & expenses, for which they were unable to take care of themselves at that time. At this time the Grand Mother has had a writ institute to take them from. Me before the time has, run out for which they were bound By Bureau.
Judge John Osborn of this parish has given Judgment in there favor & report the contents of your letter.  Appealed to the Supreme Court of this State, which meets in N. Orleans in Febry Next 1871 Thinking they will reverse the Judgement of Osborn in the Court town court & carry out the intentions validity of the contract made by the Bureau
