Mr. Alfred Hunt
Aluminum Company of America
Alcoa Building 1501
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Dear Mr. Hunt:

Philip Johnson recently told me of your extremely generous offer to supply much needed materials to make my sculptures. It is difficult for me to express how much your offer means to me. It is not an exaggeration to say that your offer is essential in terms to my being able to produce pieces for significant exhibitions in which I have been asked to participate.

I have been invited by the Whitney Museum of American Art to have a one-man exhibition in February, 1968;and most of the material I am now requesting will go toward pieces for that show. In fact your contribution would constitute one-fifth of the entire show and two of the largest pieces on view. I am also asking for material to produce one work each for the 2nd Buffalo Festival of the Arts Today to be held at the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, and a group exhibition of contemporary art to be held in the museum in the Hague, Holland. Both of these exhibitions will be held in the Spring of 1968. I will see to it, of course, that Alcoa will be given full credit in the various catalogues for its significant contribution.

Attached is a list of the materials needed by me. I would like them all delivered to Bernstein Brothers Sheet Metal, 41-18 24th Street, Long Island City,New York.

I would also like to mention that I have doing business with Adam Metal Supply in Long Island City for three years. They might be very helpful in the handling of the material.

I thank you in advance for your generosity and your kindness and wish that I could express more sufficiently my gratitude.

Sincerely,

Donald Judd
