Dear Sir,
On the 6th of Jan. 1871 by Gen Howard's direction I wrote to you that the promised for a school building at Fayetteville N.C. would be paid as soon as Congress should appropriate the funds. On the 11th of Jan. a letter was written to Mr. Batchelor at Raleigh, brother of the former owner, enclosing vouchers in property form for the money to be signed by him. Nothing has since been heard from Mr. B. The deed was returned to you. Gen. Howard now has the to fulfill his promise, and he wishes to settle the account at once. Can you cause the vouchers to be forwarded?

Very Respectfully
E Whittlesey
