Dear Sir

Enclosed I send you a communication addressed by me at the request of Mima Temple, an old and infirm Coloured Woman, to the Treasury Department; & the Auditors reply - They will explain the object in sending them to you - This old woman gave her son to the cause of the Union - He served a short time & died - Her claim for bounty & services amounting to over #300.00 - was properly proved & allowed by the proper authorities, & yet she has only received about $97.00 while [[strikethrough]] an [[/strikethrough]] others of her acquaintance, whose sons entered the army about the same time have received $300 bounty & pay for their some services - There must be some error to the detriment of the old woman, which if you can correct, or put her upon a place to have corrected, will not only be an act of justice to a truly loyal woman, but of charity to age & infirmity -

I have no personal interest whatever to subserve in the matter - I charge the old woman nothing for my services, but shall feel fully compensated if I shall be the humble instrument of securing her rights -
Very Respectfully
R. C. Bowling
