Sir;
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 1st Inst.  The case now rests with Bishop Atkinson and the Trustees to whom the property at Fayetteville was conveyed.  They have the right, I think (and if not, probably the courts will authorize) to reconvey the property to Mr. L.W. Batchelor, if they do not wish to complete the bargain.
   
Gen Howard and the bureau did not purchase nor authorize the purchase of a "house and lot" at Fayetteville.  But Gen. Howard did promise to Bishop Atkinson
