Madam:
Your letter to Mr J W. Alvord has been sent to this office [[strikethrough] for reply [[/strikethrough]]. I am directed to inform you that the Freedmen’s Bureau no longer aids in supporting schools at the South, its funds for that purpose being all expended. If you can furnish testimony that you are competent to teach you should apply to some Supt of Education under a state Government.
