Dear Sir: Your letter to Genl Howard in behalf of Mrs Anna Jameson has been placed in my hands with instructions to reply. I herewith send you the original voucher taken from the files of the D.O. requesting that you carefully preserve [[strikethrough]]the same [[/strikethrough]] and return it to Gen. Howard. You will see that Mrs. Jameson receipted for the full amount. If proof can be given that she was paid only $50, an officer will be sent to make a thorough investigation and measures taken to bring the man guilty of fraud to justice. But this bureau has very little means to carry out its work, and the costs
