Hyattstown M.d May 15th 1871 Gen O.O. Howard Sup F Bureau Dear Sir; Your Bureau kindly promised us (the Freedmen of Hyattstown) $250 - towards building a school house for our untaught selves & children The vouchers for the same were sent for us to sign in October last which was signed by us and returned to your department - when in a few days; it was stated the money would be ready for us. We went to work & got nearly all framing materials upon ground & at the Saw Mill.
