a citizen employee received $75.00 per month besides quarters rations and fuel and I performed the same duty and received only $16.00 per month.
I had sole charge under Dr. Ensor of male and female wards with an average occupancy of I suppose about 120 patients. we had also about 500 outside patients more or less. my duty was to superintend the police discipline &c of patients issue rations daily also prepare the medicines for outside and hospital patients and distribute it, attend to the records, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] books, and general office work of Hospital, dress all the different wounds &c twice daily besides a hundred different things, I was left solely in charge for 3 weeks while Dr Ensor was in Charleston and as Dr Ensor remark'd my presence during any operation was indispensible, herewith I will send you copies of recommendations from Asst Surgeon E. Cones U.S.A. and Dr Ensor. and then if you think that $16.00 per month was a just consideration for my services and that I am entitled to no extra pay I am perfectly satisfied leaving this to your honor to do me the justice I think I deserve.

I have the honor to the General
Very Respectfully
Your obdt Servant
