178 Toledano St New Orleans 15 April 1871 Brevit Major General O. O. Howard, Commissioner of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands. General, A long time has elapsed since I completed the work on Straight University; and, as some of the men I employed on that work have not been paid; I hope you will conclude that the alone mentioned facts are a sufficient reason for my asking an early settlement of my claim. Your Obedient Servent, John Page
Transcription Notes:
Unsure on the last name; it's the closest to what I think is right, however I cannot find record of him online... maybe John Page
Servant is written as Servent- not even written in the manner an 'a' would be done
It looks like it should be Coledano (second word on the first line) but Toledano St in a street in New Orleans
Brevet should be the title but it's written as Brevit
