And to remedy this, I have for years in transmitting vouchers for signature enclosed a letter (Form No 1 enclosed) on which I require explicit instructions as to making payment. And in case of any deficiency or want of clearness, withhold it till the defect is remedied.

Then in whatever way the payment is made I have a similar letter (Form No 2) in which the receipt of the money is acknowledged. 
Form 1 is filed with "Letters Received", and Form 2 I put away, as my own vouchers for the payment. 
In whatever method the payment is made there is still another voucher, either an Express Receipt, a check endorsed.
