United States Senate Chamber,
Washington, June 9th, 1871

Sir:

I enclose a Report made by you to the Secretary of War, giving "official information concerning outrages committed on Freedmen and others in Mississippi." This Report has been referred to me by the Secretary of War.

Be so kind as to furnish me with the names of reliable witnesses, who can give satisfactory evidence of the disturbed condition of affairs in the counties of Monroe, Soundes, Noxubee, and that part of Sauderdale said to be infected by outlaws, in the State of Mississippi, giving the Post Office address of each witness suggested.

With reply, please return the enclosed Report.

Respectfully,
John Scott
