Dear Sir,
The undersigned Committee, appointed by the Colored Citizens of the town of Berlin in Worcester County, Maryland, have the misfortune to state, that immediately after the late November Election they had their school house entirely burned down without cause, by some unknown person or persons, and that since then, owing to the depressed condition of every thing, and the general poverty of our people we have been unable to rebuild it, in consequence of which our children are sadly suffering for want of a common school.

Our object in this communication is to ask you to aid us in this matter of re-building our
