Dear Sir, a few days ago I gave some facts in regard to a claim I have against the government to one of its agents and he advised me to lay the whole subject with all the details before you; this is my apology for intruding upon you; In the spring of 1867. One of the agents of the Freedmans Bureau Judge Green of Russell County, came into this County to organize a Colored School, he was immediately deathly threatened by a mob and left in the night to escape violence - In the fall of that same year, another agent came here from Cumberland County, on the same buisiness, Lieut Kingsburg the last agent hearing of the bad success of the former agent and meeting with but little encouragement, and some decided coolness, became discouraged and was about leaveing without doing anything, but I got home before he started. (I had been away some days.) and learned what was up. I told him to appoint me a Sub agent, and I would give a lot of Ground and have a House built upon it. We selected a location I had a deed writen and acknowledged Conveying the lot to the school. I soon had a man employed. (Mr Benjamin White) to put up
