to me to fill up in the form of a contract binding me as agent, and the trustees of the School House as such to finish the House with floors, doors, windows, seats &c. and binding the Government or the Freedmans bureau to pay me as soon as completed One Hundred and fifty dollars. This was to pay for the white job and the balance of the work & material necessary to finish the House. I had the Trustees summoned first in so namely Reubin Frazer, Robert Pittman, Winston Cessover, Henry Craig and David Dohoney. and we all signed the obligation, mailed the Contract back to Louisville. we went on and finished the House, and the school was opened in it. A teacher a colored lady was obtained in the north and has proved to be a very good teacher she has taught two 10 mo cessions and on five month and she has greatly improved the condition of the books and has broken down a great deal of prejudice.

When the job was done I sent to the Bureau for the pay sent by Mr. Bradshaw but the clerks had been changed Liet Kingsberry had been sent to some other point and they seemed not to know anything about it. I then wrote to Col B. F. Runkle, his office was then at Covington give him the facts. enclosed to him Lieut Kingsberrys letters authoriseing [sic] me to employ White, got affidavits of all the trusteese [sic] to the truth of what I had writen and sent them to him I received no answer and heard nothing more about it until early last spring Col Runkle visited our town on business connected with his office, I had an interview with him
