Washington D.C.

Sir in Novr last we purchased for Mr Jos. G. Dill, the Dill's Bakery property in the city which was sold by your order as Comr of abandoned lands &c.

Mr Dill paid the purchase money in cash, and rec'd a deed executed by you.

Having held a portion of the property, a question is raised by the Counsel of the purchaser, as to your power to sell. He thinks the act of Congress of 1866 referred to in the printed deed you gave, had expired by limitation before you made the sale - and he has been unable to find any extension of it by Congress.

He thinks there may have been authority in the War Dept. to extend the act.

Will you please furnish us with information upon these points.
Your attention will much oblige
