Rec'd Bureau R.F. & A.L Vol. 16 1871 Washington, DC July 28, 1871 Brown Jane [[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]] Desires to find out the whereabouts of her daughter Mary Frances Anderson who was bound out by Capt. Spurgeon Bur. Agt in 1867. See enclosed memorandum File Rec’d Bureau R.F.&A.L. July 28 1871 First endorsement Respectfully referred by the Commr to Lt. W F Spurgeon 21st US Infy. with the request that he furnish any information in the possession in regard to this case which may enable the mother to ascertain the whereabouts of her daughter. J A Sladen AAA Genl Bu. RF& AL August 17th 1871 Second endorsement Camp Crittenden A. S. September 20th 1871 Respectfully returned to 1st Lieut. J A Sladen AAA Genl Bureau RF and A.L. I am sorry to be compelled to return this paper without being able to give some information relative to Mary F. Anderson. I think the mother is mistaken about her daughter having been bound out, as I do not remember of having bound out a single person while on duty in the Bureau of RF & A.L. Her daughter may have found a home with some gentlemen in N.Y. If such is the case the old records should show it The transaction may have taken place after I was relieved. If so it is probable that Major Vanderburg, my successor who I believe now lives in Washington may know something of it. Wm Spurgeon 1st Lt 21 Infantry
