Genl O.O. Howard

In May 1867 my daughter Mary Frances Anderson was apprenticed for 3 years by Capt. Spurgeon agent of the Freedmens Bureau at that time in this city to a gentleman living in New York, his name I have since forgotten. He promised before taking her away that I should hear from her every two weeks, but I have never received a letter from him nor heard from her in any way since she has been gone.

My object in writing to you is to find out if possible her whereabouts. By giving me any information which the records of your office may furnish in regard to the matter and using your exertions in finding out her present place of residence
