Dear Gen Howards, 
The Rebel School Trustees here, are determined to do all they can
to drive us from the State & break up our good work here; and a main object of their's is to get possession of the school-house which the Government aided the Freedmen to build,

In this effort they find a pliant tool in the Rev. Chauncey Leonard. He is in correspondence with - "War Dept Bureau of 'Freedmen & etc.'" & I have heard the trustees hope.
