Hopkinsville Kentucky
August 2nd 1871

Hon W W Belknap
Secretary of War
Washington D.C.

Sir
I was Corporal in Company D. of the 108 Regt of US Colored Infantry and find in my discharge with Judge Joseph Ricketts of Greenville on order to obtain my bounty and find from his letter hereto attached that my claim was allowed in April 1870 and sent to the Freedmans Bureau - and as they have made no effort to pay me for over one year I want the claim withdrawn from the Officers of that Bureau.

When my claim is allowed by the proper Officer, it is mine and I claim the right to control my own moneys -

I wish the vouchers sent to me at Hopkinsville care of D S Hays I will sign them and upon their return. I want a check, a check for my money and that sent to me care of D.S. Hays Hopkinsville I want the case withdrawn from that Bureau as should have paid me long ago - I live in the [[strikethrough]] nort part [[/strikethrough]] North part of Christian County too far from Clarksville to go there after my money My claim should have been sent to my agent Judge Ricketts at Greenville and I would like it best if you would order it send to him. I can get it esier there than at Hopkinsville. It should have been sent to him at first and I would have my money long ago
Witness: Geo C. Long
Yours Respectfully.
