Having an earnest desire to co-operate as far as practicable in school matters with the State Schools I have attended several meetings of the School Trustees for this School District. (No 1). 

The enclosed two requests or petitions are the result.  

No 1 is official from the whole board consisting of Mr Crofat (white) merchant, Mr. Carleton (white) Justice of the Peace, Clerk of the School Board and writer of the paper.

No. 2 is written by Mr. Carleton one of the members of the Board & Justice of the Peace.

This city has never had a Free School & I warmly approve of any suitable plant to establish one. The Board have furnished suitable Teachers & accommodations for all the colored children & now ask assistance from me as representative of the Bureau Fund to start a Free school for whites, as many are here to poor to attend a
