Dear Sir.

The board of School Trustees for school district No 1, desire most respectfully to present for your official consideration, the fact, that there does now exist at Beaufort, a most urgent need for the establishing of a free school, for the use and benefit of the many white children residing thereat, and in its vicinity, whose parents, in view of the present utter absence of any adequate school priviledges, and in consequence of pecuniary misfortune, are rendered unable to give their children that which is the pride of our American Institutions, viz.. a free school education.

The knowledge of these circumstances, to-gether with the pertinent consideration, that the the board in providing the schools already established by them, has created a prospective indebtedness that will probably use all the money that will accrue
