the damage sustained by the claimant. The party at present occupying the Farm informed me that he could agree to put the entire farm in as good repair as it was in June 1865, for $500. My Weddenburn claims $150 for rent of the Farm for 1865,during that year the land was in possession of two citizens of the County who made a crop of oats on it. The land was rented to them by Mr. Webb, the Agent of Mr Weddenburn. Mr Webb received the rent for the land, and consequently should not charge the U.S. Government with it. The buildings out houses and garden was only occupied by the Troops and the Freedmen, and not the land, which was under cultivation by citizens. The place was vacated by the Freedmen on the 14th Feb 1866. In estimating the damages at $600 I consider that fully $200 of it was done before a Bureau Officer assumed chargeof the County, and for which the Comd'g Officer of the Troops on duty was responsible.
