Glendower, Alb Co, Va
Dec 4th 1871 —

Genl. O. O. Howard,
Dr Sir,

I have been requested by the trustees of the Glendower School to again apply to you for a teacher. The school has been without a teacher since Sept last and the colored people as well as myself are particularly anxious to get a teacher. It is necessary that a teacher be supported outside the school as the free school is established. There is a fund of some $150 for the support of a teacher. You would greatly oblige all parties interested if you could provide a teacher of put us in the way of one.

Very Respectful.
W. Gordon Merrick
Sec & Treas.
