[[stamped]] RECEIVED H.H. RAY NOV 24 1871 [[/stamped]] for her which you did - and she took the $39.85 loose, in a package by itself. Mr Kendrick and her left the office, as well as myself - though I came right out past them - I did not walk down with them - The whole transaction was straight and honest, If anything had been wrong on my part, I certainly should not have wanted the presence of Mr Kendrick - who is a stranger to me - I do not believe Maria would make such statements of her own accord - As for proofs, I refer you to the order and to her own statements at the time - As I know you would have been very clear of paying the money if she had not told you to do so. I have the honor to be, Very Respectfully, Your Obt. Servant H.H. Carr Atty & Claim Agent N.B. I am not positive as to the date of that order, but I think it was Oct. 28th or very near that date [[right margin]] [[stamped]] 1 L.R. #511 "A" 187/. D.O.K. [[/stamped]] [[/right margin]]
