Forty-second Congress U.S.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
Washington, D.C. Dec 23 1871
[[stamp]] RECEIVED O.O.H. DEC 28 1871 [[/stamp]]

Dear Sir,
I would like very much to know the aid which has been extended by the Government to freedmen in the different states from your Bureau for Educational purposes in Lands, money, or otherwise. My impression is that a good deal has been contributed in this way, and I desire to use the facts in connection with a Bill which I have introduced, asking a Land Grant for the benefit of schools in this District.
Very truly yours
M.P. Chipman
