Transcription Notes:
This seemingly humble page marks an astonishing event! On July 3, 1865, just one day before the first American Independence Day on which 'Freedmen' would finally be free, and not two months after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, here we read of plans to raise a monument in his honor, in effect the antecedent to our Lincoln Memorial and all other commemorations!Has this event been researched in any way? If not, it should be!
