N.H. Concord, July 31, 1865. Dear Col. There is a great want of domestics in this city at the present time, so much so that it is utterly impossible to get a decent one at any price. Is there any way of obtaining from the Freedman's Department a number of negro girls or women to do housework? If there is, if the Department would forward twenty or twenty five to this city, I would undertake to obtain good places for them in families here. Of course I should like to have them send those who have had some experience in doing general housework, who can cook, wash and iron, &c. Please answer this or refer it to some one interested, who will & oblige me. Mrs C. was in the office this afternoon and was looking very well. Yours truly, Asa Fowler. Hon. Wm E. Chandler, Washington, D.C. [] If they cannot send 20, let them send 10, or even 2 or 1. []
