Treasury Department,
Second Auditor's Office,
Sept 8th 1865.

Dr Sir
I have called twice but failed in seeing you, the pressure upon your time being so great. My sole reason in wishing to see you was to thank you in person for your considerate attention to Mrs Lincoln & Capt Lincoln's letters on my behalf.

If the hours which are intended to be devoted to the teaching of the colored children during the evening, are not too long I might probably lend a hand.

I am
Dr Sir
Your very Obedt

Transcription Notes:
I don't know what the salutation is supposed to be. Genl? The signature name, Alex Williamson, is clear from the preceding wrapper document. Dr Sir = Dear Sir
