I stopped and had diner, made myself steak with egg on top, tomato salad, yoghurt.  I'll stay home and relax (I'm having the life of the business man, 8 or 10 hrs. a day work, without the advantages of such life like hating the work or loving it for the sake of money only.  Today I got up at 9, went to the office where I found Miss Elenor doing perfect cleanliness and order in the studio.  I worked for a while then Rogers went to see me before his departure, he was supposed to leave practicaly every day and so we had many farewells but I think today he realy left.  I got quite friendly with him and we'll see him in [[Bergamo?]] in July.  While he was there a boy came to show me his drawings and ask maestro's critique.  I discouraged him well enough.  I had lunch alone at 2 (it was raining very hard). I worked for the Detroit project in the afternoon, did a section of a highway with a mass of thundering traffic, milk trailers, gasoline trucks, cars, cabs, garbage trucks, school buses, moving vans, police, firemen, ambulances, motorcicles all compact in a big cloud of smoke, VZZZ.  I had such phone calls as the insurance man, a Knopf editor about some drawings I did for them, Frankfurter of Art news about an illustration for some story they want to print, a wrong number asking if I'm a beauty parlor.  I took a cab and went home, still raining.  I found at home a book printed by Kurt Valentine and "Punch" (By the way did you go to Mourlot?)

It was silly of you to think of me as a loose man dancing with depraved de Kooning.  That was one of the most innocent parties I ever attended and I wrote you about it only because I wanted to write you everything that I did.  I knew that you'll get suspicious but I didn't want to doctor my letters to you.  No guchi had to leave early and pack.  

Do you see often Sasha and company?  Darling think of me more often.  Where are you going Riviera?  With whom?  When?  Write me every day or more and answer all my questions.  With more love than ever in all 5 years, yrs. S.
