Dear Toshiko:

Thank you for your letter. It was very kind of you to call your frie nd Jim in Seattle. He called me and so I wrote to him a letter asking him to pick up whatever is left of my things at the Attica Gallery. So far he hasn't written to let meknow but I am sure he will soon. I tried to write a return request letter to Mr. Gray but have not received the card yet. I wonder if there is any way of sueing a person such as him?

Your plan for a benefit show at Cranbrook sounds perfect. I am very excited about it and wish that I could be there on the 29th. I shall contact all the graduates of Cranbook in New Mexico and tell them about this and ask them to send something to Dick. Should all the pieces be hangings and rugs or can they be some smaller items that will sell faster? Please let me know what type of work they wish to have in the show. I would very much like to go to Cranbrook and see what the ? students are doing. You see, we have had a request from the Tiffany Foundation concerning having an apprentice. We would like to do this during the summer months when we are very busy and have lots of things going on. Do you know of any weaver in your area who would like to come out here for two or three months to work with us? The Foundation is giving $4,000.00. Three thousand dollars for the apprentice and a thousand for us. This will be paid to us in two installments. One half upon completion of the arrangements and the second half in four months time.

Both the apprentice and myself will have to send some photos of recent work, biographical material and a short description o f how the apprentice could help in my work. Adter the completion of the grant we would like some photos and letter from both of us telling them what the grant meant to us and whether we think the program should be continued by the Foundation.

Ihave written to Trude Gurmenprez and to Dorothy Meredith of Madison, Wisconsin for any students they can recommend. I recieved one application from a student of Trude's. I would like to know of any other person whom you think might be interested. We will be doing a lot of vegetable dyeing. They can learn how we operate the fly shuttle loom and how we go about running a small craft shop. We hope to learn some things from the apprentice also as this is supposed to be mutually beneficial program. I would like to see if there is anyone in Cranbrook who would like to do this also and so if I can manage to go to Cranbrook I would like to go and see the set up. Do you know who is theteacher inthe weaving department now? It will be wonderful to be back to see the school again and I would like to see Wally and Yori and the children. Will you be there before the 29th? By what day should the pieces be sent to Cranbrook?

All for now. Must get back to my weaving. Have one hour left to weave before Timmy comes home from nursery school.

Love Alice
