Q: Well, I think life is a serious business.

Takaezu: That's what someone said. "Life is hard and then you die." I thought that was so funny. I kept roaring and laughing about it. No, I was always serious and I wish I could let go and not be. But now, as I get older, I have fun and do things and not be that serious, but by nature being serious, you can't undo that.

Q: So that when you went to school, elementary school, let's say, school was also something to be taken seriously?

Takaezu: Yes. Yeah.

Q: And how did you do in school?

Takaezu: Average. I think I was average. I did well till I got to seventh or eighth grade, I think. This is a very personal thing. When things got pressure at home, I could see--

Q: School work going down?

Takaezu: Yes. I was worried about everything around. Yeah.

Q: Yes. What about making things as a kind in elementary or high school?
