Takaezu - 1 - 16

father than the girls?

Takaezu: No, I don't think they expected much. They didn't put any pressure--

Q: On anybody?

Takaezu: No. No pressure whatsoever.

Q: When you hit Cranbrook, was it--well, could you describe how Cranbrook seemed to you?

Takaezu? Of course Cranbrook was very impressive. Beautiful. It was like a dream that I came from Hawaii here.

Q: And you saw snow for the first time?

Takaezu: That's absolutely right. And bluejays. And swans. And the whole thing. And it was hard, in a way, to work, but I worked hard. I have always worked hard. I didn't think I would ever get this medal, for that matter. Because I didn't think I was that good either. Being shy actually was the thing that held me back. People don't think I am shy, but when I think about it, I shudder at the thought. I managed, but I don't know how I made it to Cranbrook from Hawaii. When I think about it, I can't imagine. But I did.
