Tuesday morning

Dear Toshiko,

I should have written this letter some time ago but I do seem to be very busy....I went to the theatre the night I was in New York but did not see you all in the crowd. Actually I went before the curtain and afterwards too...there was a terrible crush so it is easy to see how you were missed. I enjoyed New York but you are under some pressure when you have some responsibility in the thing. Everything went smoothly this time. Next month we are taking a group to Chicago which is much easier for we go by bus and is not such a frantic thing. It is fortunate that I do not have to do the paperwork and the organization....I guess it all means something.

Lots of people are excited about your coming to Nashville soon. I think that there is an article in the coming Sunday paper. I talked to Jane Rozier last night. She is charge of the fair and is getting the details worked out now. She is a nice person and I like her very much. She is in charge of the crafts program at the Sarratt Student Center at Vandy. She would like for you to meet with some of her people and maybe demonstrate at 1;30 Thursday, April 29 and then have your public presentation at 7;30 that night. I'm not sure if you plan to come down on Wednesday or can get a schedule early Thursday morning. Tom and Mel Mihal are especially interested in your Vandy stay. Mel is from Cleveland and is very knowlegable ((knowledgeable))about pots as well as being somewhat of a pain. But that is all right and dinner is in the pot at 5;30. Friday about ten the fair gets going and you can go around selecting the exhibit...the booths were very nicely arranged last year and I believe that basically the same arrangement is going to be used this year so I think that the selection will not be too troublesome for your keen eye. Most people come and get set up on Thursday and have their wares suitably arranged. I guess it will be a mess if it rains. It never has on opening day so far. I'll call sometime in a few days and see how things are.

I've been awfullybusy and do not have things for the fair. I put together a quilt show here which was a whooping success in everyway but it took its toll and lots of time. I did have some heop ((help)) putting it up but selecting, returning, designing the catalogue and getting the demonstrators and promoting it was pretty much my doing. I enjoyed the success of it but it is too much with the lots of everything else I have to do. I got one of the home demonstration clubs to make a beautiful quilt which they donated and we have been selling tickets on it to make an art scholarship. It is a beauty too and I wish that someone in my family would win it. For the opening we had a big cake made like a patchwork quilt and a movie on Kentucky quilting...
