Dear Toshiko..

It is always a pleasure to have a hand written letter, and you still have a very clear distinctive handwriting...mine is unreadable even before it is written...2 om mother's sisters still write well and clearly...we correstpond from time to time.

Years ago the Charleston Library was having a book sale on the side walk and bought several boxes of ARTS OF ASIA...going back to the 70s ..brought them along home, subscribed and have been amusing myself by flipping thru' them from time to time and even reading some of the articles...the other morning I was flipping thru' and found this ad in an old one....I told Tom that I thought that you might have seen this or thought something like it....this kind of thing was freash in my mind as I had seen some new work by the young man who works for me. He had done some good things and you were there...not copying or such ...and he would be very annoyed at even the suggestion for he is as independent 'as a pig on ice'...that is an old Tennessee country saying. Never have known what it means, but is sort of fun. Over the years he has been looking at books and I took him a catalogue of your Perimiter exhibit....and so influences go...

Summertime is here with a thrust right now. I've not been very peppy for a couple of weeks. I cope with dizzyness from time to time and it is very inconvenient to say the least...I really would like to do some new and innovative work but I seem lucky to do the same thing...friends tell me that my things have changed but I usually don't see it.

And little things to deal with...my favorite little mongrel is not feeling so good this morning for some reason. He is a scruffy little mess but is a dear critter. He is so charming when he quenches his thirst by licking moisture off the grass when walking. Sometimes that is almost as moving and beautiful as a Verdi opera...do you think that can be so?

Lewis has been really under the weather...he may be improving and Tom moves more Elderly every day...and ain't that a shame.... In spite of all things are pretty good I'd say...

This is just a keep in touch effort on my part....

Lewis and Tom send regards
Love,
Olen
