May 19, 1931.

Mr. Henry O. Tanner,
"Edgewood",
Trepied par Etaples,
Pas de Calais, France.

Dear Mr. Tanner:

Since we have more Painter Members in the Drawing this year than Lay Members, we are sorry to advise you that we will not be able to use your painting "The Arch", which we purchased from you, in this exhibition. We regret this, but it is, you know, rather a dull year.

If you wish to send a check for $400, the amount we paid you for the canvas, the painting, of course, will be your property; otherwise, we will merely keep it in stock as the property of the Galleries. You may, of course, handle it whichever way you wish.

Assuring you of our appreciation of your co-operation, and with best wishes,

Very truly yours,
Erwin S. Barrie
Manager.
