                      lived his youth

My father was born in Pittsburg as did his father , his grandfather. I know nothing about nor did I ever ask him, my mothers peoples were the Millers of Winchester Va, her father was the son of a [[planter??]] named Miller - & when he married his wife insisted on leaving Winchester Va a slave state & came north in an ox cart to Pittsburg.

I know little about them I might have known more as some cousins still live there, but I doubted the worst & was too proud to ask [[strikethrough]]? ? ?[[/strikethrough]]. In fact having spent the last [[30?]] years in France - [[strikethrough]]took[[/strikethrough]] it never seemed to come to my mind until my mother was gone.

The was an island in the [[? ?]] below Pittsburg & my father & my father can remember it being called[[Tanner?]] island But finally my grand father grew tired of it & moved to the then little city of Pittsburg

My remember having seen the papers which were left in a great cupboard in the house was found & with it all the papers - & strangely enough the old Court house at Harrisburg was burned in [[18?]] and it state records [[bottom of page torn off]]
