Extent of land under cultivation has not increased. On account of dry weather plowing at present is impossible.

On an average from 4 to 5 convalescents from each hospital work from 5 to 6 hours each day. We thus have about 350 hours of convalescent labor per week. B.H.36 has from 3 to 4 enlisted men per day. B.H.23 about one per day. These men work about the same hours as convalescents. No hired labor is employed except the shepherd. Since our last report to July 22 about 850 kilos. of vegetables of a value of at least 800 frs have been divided between the two hospitals The vegetables are primarily for the diet kitchens

About 20,000 winter cabbage plants were sent from the Nursery at Versailles. About 17,000 arrived in a more or less good condition, and after being "refreshened" were planted in two days. In the last couple days 1500 salad plants have been replanted - and others will follow as soon as they can be acquired - Our experience with plants shipped from a distance, makes us try as far as possible to secure all plants locally.

A pig-pen and yard have been constructed
