Dear Helen,
June Harwood just called to tell me of the death of Lorser. I am sad, for you. I am sad for me.

I envied the two of you. Two painters - also man and wife - in one house. I must have been very good. The talk, the exchanges, the looking, must have been great fun. I can imagine too, that the pain of you loss must be terrible. I hope that in time it may ease, a little.

When I think of Lorser I think of his bombast, then those friendly eyes. I think of the last time I saw him- in the LA museum in 1977. He was wearing that good looking herring bone jacket. He said he liked my painting. He was kind and generous man. I liked him. I'll miss him.

Sincerely

Frederick Hammersley
