Lorser Feitelson
.................

If you lived in LA in the 40's you knew of, or, knew Lorser Feitelson. At that time, I knew of him - as a painter a teacher, and as what seemed to me a painter-evangelist on TV. The sight and sound ofhim on TV I thought at first as rather gruff. I felt that his adjectives in praise of - or, in the damning of artists, abit excessive. But then as I got to know him personally in the late 50's in his home on 3rd street, I still felt the same. But now I could see more. He loved painting. He like those who made paintings. But he was impatient with those sinners who made paintings less than good. At the same time he would encourage the young painter. He helped many get on the wall of the LA Art Association - then on Wilshire. He was generous man, and was rich in friends. I'm glad I knew him. I feel fortunate to have shared a wall with him - and hope that I may again.
