INTEREST IN THE ARTS, cont. from Form sheet:
However, in a hiatus between finishing Junior College and going on to further academic education, a friend of my family offered to stake me to a few months at a small art school in Pasadena. That was my great good fortune: after about three months of life class and "composition" oriented toward illustration, the teacher of those classes left for a Mexican vacation and Lorser Feitelson took over his classes. I then learned to distinguish Art from illustration - and that was IT.

Whatever an artist can learn from another person I learned from Lorser Feitelson: this includes technical skills, an approach to historical art, and ideals of artistic ambition and integrity. Among historic artists my admirations have ranged widely, from Piero della Francesca to Di Chricio's early works.
