[c.1915]

Dear Flora -
Did not the fate of nations depend on my going to Washington tomorrow, nothing could drag me there - but destiny, instead of shaping my end, seems to preferr merely giving it an occasional kick which makes me realize our life is what we make it and not in the hands of others. So to Washington I must go, and find a humble abode and tell the Art School that it is

soon to have me there - on the defensive and therefore hard to deal with- I am hoping you may come down on the afternoon train, in which case this letter will be more or less wasted - If I dont see you before. I shall stop on my way from Plains tomorrow evening - I'm so glad you're coming and only wish you could be with me. Give my love to Mrs. Rumsey and tell her I've been meaning to come over to see her and sympathize about her ribs but as usual have let procrastination get the better of me.
All my love
Katherine
