You are a super-wretch, and deserve almost anything - particularly as I have been in some need of moral assistance lately and have felt apallingly alone in the world. What with materially closing up the house in Rapallo, travelling to Rome with 6 trunks, 6 bags a dog, a hopelessly stupid maid & a headache, and mentally seeing the last of my family sail away, being left alone in Italy, having to face the beginning of my studies and trying to lend borrowed encouragement to a wounded soldier who would talk of nothing but suicide where I felt on the verge of it myself - I am physically, morally & mentally demoralized - An unhappy state of affairs and a distressing one - also one requiring such succour from outside influences - I have written you four
