Flora dear -

I can't believe that it was only yesterday we parted at Charleston and you doubtless wouldn't think I was telling the very truth if I should elaborate on how much I miss you. I am a creature of habit as you know and I have, in the last week gotten the habit of your family, so that I am on the verge of contemplating adoption to the Whitneys. Our trip dwindled in a very pathetic manner - from Baltimore on one could have seen the three remaining members too dejected for description - one madly reading the Fairy Queen, & the two others alternating between games of solitaire, tragic gazes out the window, sudden attempts at smoking - eating apples & finally lethargic lapses on the sofa. It was very sad and this morning it is sadder still. I find almost as I expected, that my week of exalted pleasure has been here
