March 19th

Dear Mr. Truman,

Thank you for your letter of March 12th.

1/ Please find enclosed hanging instructions for Malcolm III for the Whitney. I would appreciate it if you could check on the hanging as it is very important that there is a block of wood (see drawing) supporting the bronze at the bottom between the wall the the sculpture, otherwise it doesn't hang straight. For the height, they should follow the photo (the way the silk falls onto the floor). I know the placement is a matter o luck, but it needs a lot of room around it as well as a perspective in front of it. The more space, the more monumental it becomes. I saw it happen at MIT.

2/ Also, did Mr. Doty come to choose the drawings? If so which ones did he take? If not, would it be proper to call him and remind him. In his letter to me, he mentioned he would like two drawings.

3/ Please find enclosed the slides for Finch College.

4/ For the Newark show, I have made a drawing on how "Time Womb" can be hung. The only thing I don't want is that it be hung like a painting with cords. Otherwise, I agree.

5/ Is the Newark show another "black" show? I am getting tired of the whole bit, frankly. I would be grateful to know who is organizing it and why.

6/ I plan to ask the agents of my shipper in Paris to send back four sculptures now in the warehouse. Is this alright with you or do you have some plans for using other sculptures? They are:

Malcolm NO. 1
Malcolm NO. 4
I know where I'm Going
A New Life

The shipper's name is Benson 11 Broadway and the main I will write is Mr. Rosen. I won't write until I hear from you.

7/ Thank you so much for your help (and niceness) for the film. I spoke with the cameraman who is a fiend of mine, in Paris. He mentioned that you said you found the prices of the Malcolms too low. I made them extremely low because of the financial situation in the States (they were almost one third more last year) but I realize that this sometimes backfires if the right psychological price should be higher. I know people who buy art don't like to this they are getting a bargain. Then they think there is something wrong with the sculpture. So..if the prices don't sound right to you, change them to what you think they should be.

Best,
Barbara

P.S. Thank you for the catalogues.
