| 1866 March 8th | Dickerson Jack, (Freedman) L.R.B. 2. 25. 514. E. & M. 126. | Augusta, Ga. March 8th 1866 Makes affidavit before Capt. W.W. Deane A.A.G., that, about the 10th Febr'y. he was brought before M.P. Wingfield Esq., Agent of Freedmen's Bureau for Morgan Co., on a charge of stealing some cotton cloth - that he was found guilty and confined in the Court House about four hours, when he was taken out and tied up in the Court House yard by William Colberd (Sheriff) and A.M. Bell (Town Marshal) - that said Colberd and Bell took him back in the Court House, up stairs, and Bell got a buggy-trace from Hollis's livery stable, stripped down his clothes, made him lie down, and whipped him with the buggy-trace - Mr. Colberd counting the lashes. States that he received more than a hundred lashes on his bare back and legs - that Mr. Bell asked him several times how he liked it, and said, "see now what good the d_d yankees do you" - that it was a week before he was able to work - that Jack Addison and Wash. Hollis also know about the matter. |

| March 15th | Davis Jacob R., Ag't Bureau R.F. & A.L. E. & M. 133. 153. | March 15th 1866. States that Solomon (freedman) has made complaint to him in regard to a claim on a Mr. Mitchell Jones of Columbia County - that he has written to Mr. Massengale, Agent of the Bureau, on the subject, with receiving any reply. Is of the opinion that Solomon's claim is just and should receive the assistance of the Bureau. |

| 1866 March 19th | Davis Jacob R., Agent E. & M. 133. | Augusta, Ga. March 17th 1866. States that, on the 6th inst., he sent to jail for thirty days, a freedman named David Miller, who was charged with stealing - that he has learned to day that said David Miller was out of jail - that he sent a guard with the enclosed order for the delivery of said David, which was returned endorsed as follows:- "Released by order of F.B." (Signed) "J.J. Hoffman, Corp'l in charge of Jail." Asks by whose order was the prisoner dismissed. |

| March 21st | Davis Jacob R., Agent. E. & M. 135. | Augusta, Ga. March 19th 1866. Informs Hon. Robert H. May, Mayor of Augusta, that one of his policemen (Mr. Evans) is charged with striking a colored man named Jack Sims. States that Jack Sims was brought before him for having been drunk on the streets, and conducting himself in an improper manner - that Mr. Evans came along, when Jack made some remarks, for which Mr. Evans knocked him down. States that Jack was sent to jail as a punishment for violating the city ordinance. Requests information as to the duties of a policeman under such circumstances. |

March 19th '66 States that, while some policemen were searching for stolen goods, they cam across a lot of loose cotton (about 800 lbs.) which they took charge of, as stolen property was found in the same building - that one Isaac Riley now comes forward and claims the same as his property, and produces witness |
