Captain

Since the arrest of Mr Edwin Blount I have examined carefully into the circumstances of the case, and am satisfied as well from witnesses as from all that I can gather, that the shooting was entirely accidental. A misfortune simply. and that there is no criminality to be attached to Mr Blount.

He is a farmer here of good standing and represents that his plantation will suffer irreparable injury this year if he is deprived of his liberty for any length of time. I therefore respectfully request that you will immediately investigate this case and ascertain whether there is in your oppinion any necesity for his detention.

I am very respectfully.
Your Obdt. Serv't

A.A. Buck

Transcription Notes:
Opinion and necessity are misspelled in original. I understand it looks like an 'e' on the end of BUCK, but the clerk on the previous page says there's not an 'e' on the end.
