it was a moon shining night  Saw no one else until he got in the big road. He was not blindfolded until they got him to the place where they were going to whip him. Never told any one that that Mr John Statham had nothing to do with it - Says that he told Mr Wharton, Sims and others that he did not know who whipt him; the reason was they told him they would kill him if he told who did it. He was under arrest at the time, never told at no other place that he would not swear who whipped him, did not tell William Statham while riding along this morning that he did not know who whipt him. Says that he did confide to Wharton & others that the difficulty took place on Thursday night before he now dates it and told them a man by the name of Sam Walker dit. He told them so because his life was threatened if he told who did it.
